'Peace of Mind'

Once Buddha was travelling with a few of his followers. While they were passing a lake, Buddha told one of his disciples, "I am thirsty. Do get me some water from the lake."
The disciple walked up to the lake. At that moment, a bullock cart started crossing through the lake. As a result, the water became very muddy and turbid. The disciple thought, "How can I give this muddy water to Buddha to drink?"

So he came back and told Buddha, "The water in there is very muddy. I don't think it is fit to drink."

After about half an hour, again Buddha asked the same disciple to go back to the lake.

The disciple went back, and found that the water was still muddy. He returned and informed Buddha about the same.

After sometime, again Buddha asked the same disciple to go back.

This time, the disciple found the mud had settled down, and the water was clean and clear. So he collected some water in a pot and brought it to Buddha.

Buddha looked at the water, and then he looked up at the disciple and said," See what you did to make the water clean. You let it be, and the mud settled down on its own -- and you have clear water.

Your mind is like that too ! When it is disturbed, just let it be. Give it a little time. It will settle down on its own. You don't have to put in any effort to calm it down. It will happen. It is effortless."

Having 'Peace of Mind' is not a strenuous job; it is an effortless process!

Religious conversion

When we all oppose religious conversion of Christianity in India we should first think whose mistake it is?

Surely its not the problem of Christianity. It is the problem you not having faith in your religion. So religious conversion is no way a problem of Christianity. You feel proved to be said as you dont believe in your religion. You feel proved to say that you dont believe in the concept of your religion. You dont want to go to your religious holy places. You dont want to learn about your religious books or scripts. You feel shame on carrying your Holy book. You feel insult of speaking or discussing about your religion.

Tell me now.... in what way is Christianity to be blamed of religious conversion?

Is it not weird that when your religion said there is red color there you said there is no color at all there.... after conversion you started telling that there is yellow color there.... is it the problem of color (faith) or your vision?

Quran against of Terrorism

It is very unfortunate to relate Terrorism with Islam. If Quran is the ultimate of Islam then Terrorism is not encouraged anywhere in Islam. Proof:

If anyone slays a person
- unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land -
it would be as if he slew all people.
And if anyone saves a life,
it would be as if he saved the life of all people.
Qur'an 5:32

Invite all to the way of your Lord
with wisdom and beautiful preaching.
And argue with them
in ways that are best and most gracious...
And if you punish,
let your punishment be proportional
to the wrong that has been done to you.
But if you show patience, that is indeed the best course.
Be patient, for your patience is from God.
And do not grieve over them,
or distress yourself because of their plots.
For God is with those who restrain themselves,
and those who do good.
Qur'an 16:125-128

Oh you who believe!
Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to God,
even against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin,
and whether it be against rich or poor,
for God can best protect both.
Follow not the cravings of your hearts, lest you swerve,
and if you distort justice or decline to do justice,
verily God is well acquainted with all that you do.
Qur'an 4:135

The recompense for an injury
is an injury equal thereto (in degree),
but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation,
his reward is due from God,
for God loves not those who do wrong.
But indeed, if any do help and defend themselves
after a wrong done to them,
against such there is no cause of blame.
The blame is only against those who oppress men
with wrongdoing and insolently transgress
beyond bounds through the land,
defying right and justice.
For such there will be a penalty grievous (in the Hereafter).
But indeed, if any show patience and forgive,
that would truly be an affair of great resolution.
Qur'an 42:40-43

Goodness and evil are not equal.
Repel evil with what is better.
Then that person with whom there was hatred,
may become your intimate friend!
And no one will be granted such goodness
except those who exercise patience and self-restraint,
none but people of the greatest good fortune.
Qur'an 41:34-35

What is Secularism?

This is one of the toughest question in India. Though we call our country a religiously secular, still many of us dont know the meaning of what is secular means.

Freedom of religion in India is a fundamental right guaranteed by the country's constitution.

India has a Hindu President (Pratibha Patil), Muslim Vice President (M. Hamid Ansari), a Sikh Prime Minister (Manmohan Singh) and an atheist (Christian by birth, Defence Minister A. K. Antony). The leader of the largest party, the Indian National Congress, Sonia Gandhi is a Christian, while the leader of the opposition is Sushma Swaraj, a Hindu. India's ex-President APJ Abdul Kalam was a Muslim. Out of the 12 Presidents of India since Independence, three have been Muslims. India had a prominent former Defence Minister (George Fernandes), a Christian (though not practicing) and a Hindu minister controlling foreign affairs. India's Air Force Chief, Fali H. Major, is a Parsi.

The Preamble to the Constitution of India declares that India is a secular state. It is worth mentioning that the original preamble did not mention the word secular. It was added later by 42nd amendment in 1976. [1] The term secularism in politics refers to the governmental practice of indifference towards religion. Though such bifurcation is not totally possible, still, secular politics attempt to prevent religious philosophies or bodies from influencing governmental policies. The philosophy that the Indian constitution upholds is a kind of secular humanism made relevant through a historical development of the ideology within the context of religious pluralism in India.

Indian concept of Secularism takes is colour from Article 15 (Prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth), Article 25 (Freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion), and Article 26 (Freedom to manage religious affairs). These are among the list of Fundamental Rights of citizens. It is interesting to note that Indian Constitution merely states the behaviour of the State in terms of what it will not do (i.e. not discriminate based on religion). It does not say that the State has or has not a religion. It does not say whether State can or cannot participate in religion. It does not say whether State can or cannot spend public money on religious activities.

Even so, India recognizes laws based on religion. Hindus, Muslims, and Christians are governed by their own religious laws. Thus, India does not really fit into any text book definition of Secularism. It has, in fact, created its own brand of Secularism. Indeed, Supreme Court of India observed the same thing in the case of Aruna Roy vs. Union of India (SC AIR 2002), when it said Indian Secularism means ”sarva dhrama samabhav” and not “sarva dharma abhav” ( meaning, "equal feeling for all religions" and not "no feeling for any religion").

So to conclude, speaking or preaching against any particular religion is basically against of our constitution act (let our atheist people please understand this).

Finally how should we live as a secular person;

As per country be an Indian
As per culture and civilization be a Hindu
As per religion be as per your faith

Are we really like this?

Laymen's Hinduism - Part 1

Why is Hinduism looking into the dress code of a person when he enters into the temple like they should be wearing a new washed cloth. Is Hinduism giving importance to external appearance than internal faith.

The answer is: We have to look into the loooong history of Hinduism. The archealogical evidence of Harappa and Mohanjadaro is something dated back to 3000+ years. If you see the site you can understand that they are very well civilized and lived a life better than today. It took 2000 years for us to reach this level of Civilization. So think how many years it would have taken to them to reach that level of civilization. Nothing less than another 2000 years. So Hindu religious proof is dated back to minimum 5000 years. So the so called Hindu religion is not just fit into the fold of religion alone. They have started giving importance to the society and the way a person should live too. Hope you can understand now that it is not true that Hinduism is giving importance to the dress code. Its a very comprehensive religion so it preaches the way of living through religious faith.
